What are Cadastral Codes
Cadastral codes (also called Belfiore codes) are 4-characteralphanumeric identifiers assigned to each Italian municipality. These codes are essential for calculating the Tax Code, where they occupy positions 12-15.
The Italian Revenue Agency manages and periodically updates the list of cadastral codes, which includes over 8,000 active and historical Italian municipalities.
Cadastral Code Structure
Each cadastral code consists of 4 characters:
- 1 letter (position 12): indicates the province or geographic area
- 3 numbers (positions 13-15): identify the specific municipality
Exception: For those born abroad, the code always starts with Z, followed by 3 digits identifying the country.
